9 Websites by women with that extra wow factor!
On 3 March this year, renowned doctor-cum-YouTuber Ali Abdaal tweeted a request for followers to share the best personal websites that they had seen for inspiration and to get his own juices flowing. I volunteered three women with killer websites that wow. Screenshot ↓
I had previously discovered incredibly creative, functional websites with more than a hint of pretty that had me sitting up taking notes. Comment below and let me know which ones you think I tweeted to Ali. Here are the contenders:
She dreams all day
Mia Brox’s whimsical website, She dreams all day, caters to the introverts among us by incorporating visual elements and references from the sitcom Friends. This helps her to gel with her audience, while her chitter-chatter about coffee and good vibes invites them into her world.
Animated, gif-like elements and a chyron-like ticker all aim to create a cosy feel, which not only keeps fans glued, but it perfectly supports what she has envisioned for the site: a safe space for all introverts who dig coffee, cozy vibes & dreamy lives.
Her offering ranges from a blog, learning hub, podcast, etc. while also despatching an emoji-peppered newsletter in her trademark, down-to-earth conversational tone. Living her cosy dream, she has managed to eke out a living from home, coffee cup in hand.
Digital Nomad Wannabe
Sharon Gourlay’s Digital Nomad Wannabe deserves a mention. Her tagline is: Work online. Create your dream life.
She writes, “I hope that by sharing our journey here that I can show you just how possible it is to go from dreaming of working online to making it happen and help you make it happen too.”
Sharon Gourlay is a true content marketing strategist and engaging with her email journey was insightful like none other. I rarely buy online, but I purchased her book about ways to monetise online. In real time, I experienced someone take me through the marketing funnel and understood it better as a result.
For me, her site is comprehensive, and pulls no punches in teaching one what needs to be taught as wannabe digital nomad. Another fundamental lesson I learnt was that any business owner would have no problem investing in any brick-and-mortar venture, so why not an online one.
Furthermore, she entreated prospective digital nomads to be careful about whom they listened to, contending that any mentor needed to be able to back up claims with proof.
Dominique Sachse
I first discovered Dominique Sachse years ago when I was navigating a new season in my own life. And up popped an absolute treasure: an absolutely stylish, glamorous and sassy woman.
What intrigued me about her was her classy confidence and the fact that she had worked as a journalist and studied Communication. She also was unafraid to mention her Christian beliefs.
I have seen Dominique prosper through many seasons, yet thrive. Stupendously, a new venture has come her way rewarding all the effort she has put into her YouTube channel, podcast and Instagram account has ensured that hiring her was a no-brainer even though she is well into her 50s.
Authorship can also be counted among her sterling accomplishments. Book deals now also come with a requisite social media following. It makes sense to publish content to a dedicated audience hungry for knowledge on the subject.
The world of broadcasting is the same. It is encouraging to see what is possible if one is able to build a community of like-minded individuals, especially for women of a certain age wanting to pivot somewhat.
Nakisha Wynn
Nakisha Wynn once expressed a sentiment about God that made me do a double take. Along the lines that considering that she had God on her side, she could achieve what she set out to do. See the screenshot ↓.
I had not quite been living out my faith in the same way, truly believing that with God anything was possible. My strategy was more hit and miss. Thus her YouTube message hit home and made me wonder about what God could do with me and the skills and abilities He had given me. Moreover, her life and goals encapsulate the zeitgeist of the blogging genre.
Heather Farris Co
Heather Farris Co’s inspiration is obvious. The site is a delight where functionality seamlessly meets simplicity and beautiful design. I discovered her while trying to learn how to use Pinterest effectively. In more ways than one, Heather’s story is a twist on the classic tale of necessity being the mother of invention.
“Our founder, Heather, began using Pinterest in 2010 when she was newly married and had a new baby on her hip. Joking that she couldn’t cook her way out of a Hamburger Helper box, she used Pinterest to teach herself how to cook, clean, parent her daughter, and eventually how to start her online business. Her passion for this platform runs deep.”
She understands how much time and effort prospective clients put into their marketing material and promises to help them to get results.
“We believe your content doesn’t deserve to sit & collect digital dust. We understand just how much energy & time it takes to create those blogs, videos & products. That’s why we have spent years testing strategies on hundreds of accounts. “
Esther Krakue
Esther Krakue is a British commentator and columnist. She is a no-nonsense broadcaster and comes across as an even-keeled character. Her website’s sleek look showcases it perfectly as well as endowing her with a rather sophisticated air.
As per her website: “Her writing can be found in The Telegraph, The DailyMail, The Daily Express, and The Sun; where she is committed to delivering thought-provoking content, providing well-reasoned perspectives and contributing to the public discourse.”
I have seen her on various shows in the United Kingdom and her professionalism has never been in question. Her website is an extension of what one would expect of someone so accomplished and surely gets the job done and ensures more bookings.
What is Katie up to
Katie Grazer’s story mirrors my own in that we both started out on a free WordPress site and regretted it later. Eerily, we also both started our careers in finance, only to discover we did not enjoy it, but that is where the similarity ends.
Once an employee at a Swiss bank, Katie has pivoted and managed to create a profitable business online and has become a go-to person for all things Pinterest. Unsurprisingly, she has more than 27 000 followers on the platform.
Her blog built using ShowIt templates is irresistible. Earthy, neutral tones are contrasted with beautiful, sometimes riotously colourful imagery that makes her site particularly inviting – right on the button considering Pinterest is her jam.
Katie’s lead magnet is a quiz and she uses it effectively to attract new prospects, while following it up with email journeys that drive traffic to her website. In this day and age, where search engine optimisation seems unreliable and the search generative experience further disrupts the traditional blogging landscape, her strategy will probably prove to be even more invaluable in the future.
By Sophia Lee
I happened upon Sophia Lee early on in my journey. Her tips and tricks for having a successful blog inspired me to start my own. Sophia has enjoyed stratospheric success thanks to her drive and discipline.
She is the epitome of someone who has had a clear understanding of what he/she aimed to achieve from a young age. Then having the gravitas to put his/her head down to achieve it through what I would describe as reverse engineering. With an end-goal in mind, she unswervingly went for it.
Through her YouTube videos, I was introduced to the magic dust that differentiated Pinterest from other social platforms and what it had to offer by way of driving traffic to one’s website. As mentioned earlier, this will become critical for business owners selling products online or whose business model depends on website traffic.
Oluwafisayo Olayinka-Bello
Last, but not least, I was pleased to stumble upon The Fisayo site. Oluwafisayo describes herself as a “multi-award winning tourism professional, speaker, marketing expert and content strategist.”
Seemingly, her trendy, modern and inviting website with its appealing offer is no longer as active as before, but it remains a boon to me and inspires me to dream big.
In addition, she is unafraid to espouse her faith and readily gives glory to God for her success. That, too, galvanises me into action, to believe in what God can do and takes me full circle back to Mia, who seemingly dreams all day. 🙂
These women showcase what dreaming can achieve – but they also succeed at backing it up with skills and services that enable them to make a living online in a way worthy of emulation.
While this is a list curated of women’s websites, it would appear that the men I follow generally have simpler sites with effective landing pages allowing them to convert.
However, since I am very much into pretty, sparkly and all things upbeat, these women have lent inspiration for my own website and journey to becoming an online creator/entrepreneur able to earn passive income online.
Are you inspired? Let me know what you think. Any comments and feedback would be appreciated.
